Unique kauri root table with moisture resistant table top
The modern designer dining table, Unikat No. 95, measures 270 × 110 cm and is a generously sized burl table crafted from kauri wood featuring sections of tree trunk. Its striking appearance stems from the interplay of surface, natural texture, and a clean, practical design. I filled the natural voids and drying cracks with high-quality epoxy resin.

This table showcases the more understated side of kauri burl wood. The grain, which has developed over time, remains visible without overwhelming the space. This makes the table ideal for dining areas where a solid, natural look is desired, but without the dramatic presence that kauri burl wood typically offers.

The distinctive natural edges of the wood define the character of this extraordinary table. They give the tabletop an organic outline and make it clear that this is not a standard piece of furniture with an industrially smoothed finish, but a solid table with its own unique grain and shape. I sanded it down to a soft, smooth finish so that it feels as smooth as a smoothing stone.

Like any wood, kauri reacts to moisture and indoor conditions; that is why careful surface treatment is important. For this table, I have finished the tabletop in such a way that it remains suitable for everyday use and its surface is moisture-resistant and permanently protected. This combination of the wood’s unique character and ease of care makes the dining table sturdy enough for daily use.

The quality of this table as a designer dining table lies in the simplicity of its form, the size of its top, and the natural character of the material. This makes it the perfect piece of furniture for those seeking a striking dining table with a distinctive character.

As a master cabinetmaker, I craft each table individually according to the customer’s specifications, tailoring it to the unique character of the solid wood used. This ensures that each tabletop remains a one-of-a-kind piece with its own grain pattern, texture, and presence.

This burl wood table is particularly well-suited for larger dining areas, open-concept living spaces, and interiors where a natural, high-quality table is meant to be the focal point. Its strength lies in the combination of presence, exclusivity, practicality, and a clean, understated elegance.
