Sculptural design pieces—handcrafted for Swiss homes, chalets, and special architectural projects.
I also craft tables from millennia-old kauri burl wood for clients in Switzerland, customizing each piece to fit the space, proportions, and intended use. The rustic kauri burl wood blends particularly well with the clean lines of modern architecture as well as with traditional Swiss timber construction—from private homes and chalets to prestigious projects.
From selecting the slab to planning and manufacturing, all the way through delivery and customs clearance, I personally oversee every project.

Swiss architecture captivates with its clarity, high-quality materials, and timeless design language. It is precisely in this setting that Kauri design tables truly shine. The natural grain of this millennia-old wood brings a sense of calm, natural beauty, and individuality to living spaces, chalets, and prestigious architectural projects.
Each solid kauri wood table is crafted as a one-of-a-kind piece and is individually tailored to the space, proportions, and intended use. The result is not only an extraordinary dining table or conference table, but a piece of furniture that becomes a permanent part of the architecture.

Kauri wood from New Zealand has been preserved for thousands of years in an oxygen-free environment in a peat bog. This results in large-format, single-piece trunk and root slabs with a natural grain and depth of material that are distinctly different from ordinary woods.
Natural amber-colored areas, organic root structures, and organic shapes make each slab a unique starting point for design. This gives rise to dining tables, conference tables, and sculptural, one-of-a-kind pieces that blend seamlessly into modern living spaces as well as sophisticated architectural settings.
More about the amber embedded in the kauri table

The organic shape of the kauri root wood can evoke the feel of a natural work of art. At the same time, the table remains true to its original purpose: it is a piece designed for everyday use. A moisture-resistant finish protects the wood in daily use.
This is how sculptural design and unrestricted functionality come together. The Kauri dining table becomes a defining element of the room without losing its practical function.

In addition to private residential projects, Kauri tables are also well-suited for sophisticated Swiss and Austrian offices, conference rooms, and executive areas. For such projects, I design conference tables that define the space as a design element in their own right while also fulfilling their functional purpose.
Large-format tabletops crafted from a single piece of kauri burl wood lend a conference room a distinctive material presence. The dimensions, proportions, table frame, and finish are all tailored to the architecture and intended use.
For interior designers, interior decorators, and architectural firms, I offer personalized collaboration from material selection through production.

Large-format root slabs create distinctive focal points for living spaces, reception areas, and prestigious architectural projects. Their organic shape, natural bark texture, and unique inclusions give each slab a distinct appearance that is fundamentally different from industrially manufactured tabletops.
As a result, the burl wood is transformed not simply into a table, but into a sculptural design object with its own material history. At the same time, it remains a functional piece of furniture and can be used as a dining table, conference table, or work table.

Some pieces made of kauri go beyond the traditional concept of furniture in their impact. Their sculptural design, the rarity of the material, their origin and historical context, and their unique creation process make them design objects in their own right that can also be used as tables.
The piece is a work of art. The piece is a table. The two form an inseparable whole.
With " Collectible Beaupoil," I continue to explore this idea in depth.

Kauri wood comes from New Zealand and has been proven to be thousands of years old. The trees, preserved in swamps, yield large-format trunk and root slabs cut from a single piece. This opens up design possibilities that are virtually impossible to achieve with conventional wood panels.
Every one-of-a-kind kauri piece begins with the careful selection of the wood on site. The origin and age of the material remain traceable throughout the process.
More about the origin of kauri wood

The exceptional origin of the subfossil kauri wood is documented by a certificate of age. In addition, each piece of furniture is assigned a unique identification number. This ensures that the origin, age, and identity of each piece can be traced.
Combined with custom craftsmanship and personalized support, the result is a piece of furniture whose material history is an integral part of its character—from the selection of the wood to delivery.

The delivery of a large-format, one-of-a-kind piece to Switzerland is factored into the project planning from the very beginning. Upon request, I will coordinate the transportation and customs clearance and personally oversee the process.
As of 2024, there are no longer any customs duties on furniture; the import tax in Switzerland is 8.1% and is calculated based on the value of the goods, including shipping costs. A possible VAT refund or a corresponding notation on the invoice can be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Even for large formats and challenging architectural situations, installation is planned on a project-by-project basis. This applies to chalets, penthouses, and upper floors, as well as other architecturally complex spaces.
Especially when dealing with large-format tabletops, it is important to consider transportation routes, access, and installation well in advance.
