Artworks made from prehistoric swamp wood from New Zealand
Fascinated by millennia-old kauri wood, I have specialized in crafting distinctive tables and one-of-a-kind pieces, custom-made to your specifications. With their serenity, depth, and unique character, they possess the presence of a natural work of art. As a master cabinetmaker, I am driven to bring out the beauty and uniqueness of kauri wood in such a way that the resulting pieces define a space and stand the test of time. Experience and feel this aura, which is further enhanced in some pieces by naturally embedded amber.
Michael Beaupoil

Due to the unique characteristics of kauri root wood, it is ideally suited for crafting an extraordinary table. The wood possesses a natural character that cannot be replicated artificially. Tabletops with unique grain patterns, warm hues, and bark and original golden amber inclusions set in epoxy resin stand out on their own. For me, this unique natural beauty is the inspiration and source of every piece of work.

Kauri burl wood allows for extraordinary dimensions that are rarely possible with other woods. The large root sections of ancient, massive kauri trees yield impressive slabs cut from a single piece. It is precisely this that makes the tables appear as if they were grown as unique pieces, with a strong natural presence. For me, this is a key part of their appeal—in the size, the tranquility, and the power of a continuous surface that feels complete in and of itself.

Part of the unique appeal of these pieces lies in the fact that the roots and trunk are salvaged from the swamp as a single tree, preserving their natural character. The result is tables with a natural edge and a shape reminiscent of a living tree. This organic appearance lends them a special sense of calm and makes a striking impression in any room.

In certain pieces, a particularly rare feature becomes apparent: naturally embedded, golden amber that is an integral part of the material itself. When combined with kauri burl wood, this creates areas of light, depth, and density that give each piece its own unique character. Carefully crafted, this rare natural feature remains permanently visible and shapes the character of the piece in a special way.
Tables featuring natural amber inlaid into the wood

The kauri wood used comes from monumental trees in New Zealand and has been naturally preserved in swamps for thousands of years; it is a rare and finite material. No living trees are felled for this purpose—it is precisely this rare origin that gives each piece its unique depth, authenticity, and irreplaceable presence.

As a master cabinetmaker, I place great emphasis on meticulous technical and artisanal craftsmanship. Drying, surface smoothness, dimensional stability, and durability are therefore the cornerstones of my work. Every table is moisture-resistant and can serve as a dining table that also functions as a work of art. This results in distinctive designer tables and one-of-a-kind pieces built to last.
More about craftsmanship and surface quality

In my workshop in Goch, I personally oversee every step of the process—from selecting the slab to designing the piece and crafting it to completion—all under one roof. This results in custom tables and one-of-a-kind pieces, developed in close consultation with you and with great attention to material and form. Each wooden table is assigned a unique identification number, and the Kauri wood used comes with documentation verifying its age.

Thanks to the monumental size of the ancient kauri trees and their roots, it is possible to create pieces that far exceed standard dimensions. This results in impressive dining tables, large conference tables, and extraordinary one-of-a-kind pieces that cannot be replicated in this form and would be virtually impossible to create using ordinary woods.

The continuous grain of a single piece of subfossil wood, with exceptional lengths of up to 5 meters and widths of up to 2 meters, lends these works a unique sense of calm and strength within a space. They may be crafted from a single, unbroken tree trunk or from the junction of trunk and root system—creating an effect reminiscent of a living tree.
Large tables made from a single piece of burl wood

For very special projects, kauri slabs up to 11 meters in length are available in rare, exceptional cases upon request. I select these impressive large-format slabs in close consultation with my partners in New Zealand, based on photographs and the desired dimensions. The slabs are prepared there and then shipped to my workshop, where I further process them and craft them into a finished table and a truly one-of-a-kind piece.
For large conference areas, prestigious spaces, or special projects, we create custom solutions on a scale and with an impact that are exceptional even by international standards.

The small number of my works crafted from subfossil kauri wood and amber—a finite and limited material—along with their unique identification numbers and documented age, lend them a special intrinsic value. Combined with rarity, provenance, and meticulous craftsmanship, this results in one-of-a-kind tables that can gain significance and value beyond their functional purpose. In this way, they can also become limited-edition heirlooms and investments that endure for generations.
Value and long-term performance

By appointment, I can show you unprocessed kauri planks, sample tabletops made from tree trunks and burl wood with their various natural grain patterns, and the process from raw material to finished table at my workshop in Goch. For visitors from Luxembourg, southern Germany, and Switzerland, there is also a showroom in Graach on the Moselle.

As a general rule, I personally deliver the finished work to you—including to Austria, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and neighboring countries.
I crafted this custom-made conference table, measuring 2.80 × 2.10 meters, from an exceptionally large kauri root. The solid tabletop preserves the natural shape of the wood, giving it a monumental presence that makes a striking impression, particularly in formal spaces, meeting areas, or large dining rooms.
For this piece, I split the single slab of wood down the middle. This creates two tables that can be used independently, yet can be flexibly arranged individually or joined together again to form a large solid-wood conference table. In this way, this one-of-a-kind piece combines a sculptural aesthetic with functional versatility.

In May 2025, I presented my work at INDEX Dubai, one of the leading trade shows for high-end interior design and exclusive furnishings.
Kauri burl wood offers exceptional design possibilities, particularly for luxury villas, exclusive hotels, and distinctive interiors, thanks to its monumental dimensions and the uniqueness of each piece. Conference Tables and Large-Scale Designs
For meeting rooms, exclusive offices, private offices, penthouses, and prestigious properties, I design large-scale pieces with a strong presence, all custom-made to individual specifications. The visual impact of the piece in the space is just as much a focus as its function and proportions.

Root and Tree Trunk Tables Natural forms are transformed into unique, sculptural pieces for distinctive interiors. Whether organically shaped from a root or calm and powerful from a tree trunk—each piece possesses its own character and a one-of-a-kind presence.
Selected completed projects made from burl wood

Every piece is created in close harmony with the character of the wood. For me, it is a privilege to transform these naturally formed shapes into lasting works of art for special interiors through the precision of craftsmanship.

Delivery of large-format tabletops
Large-format tabletops require careful coordination of delivery arrangements right from the planning stage. That’s why I work with my clients early on to assess the on-site conditions—such as access points, stairwells, elevators, or the possibility of crane delivery.

This 350 × 155 cm tabletop was delivered to the third floor of a private residence using a crane. To protect the surface, the tabletop was secured in a sturdy protective crate. Especially for penthouses and apartments on higher floors, there is often no other way to deliver non-standard sizes.
The unit was then placed directly on the prepared base frame at its final destination and carefully installed.

At INDEX Dubai, I had the opportunity to present my work to an international audience of professionals in interior design, architecture, and high-end real estate projects. At the trade show, I engaged in discussions with interior architects and designers from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia regarding potential collaborations on exclusive private residences, apartments, and hospitality projects.
To allow visitors to experience the unique qualities of the material firsthand, I exhibited , for the first time , coffee table tops, sculptural works, and selected samples made of kauri burl wood with naturally embedded golden amber.
