Furniture with a unique combination of materials
For this designer table, I crafted a 230 × 100 cm tabletop from 3,700-year-old kauri wood. The tabletop combines sections of the tree’s roots and trunk into a single surface. This blend gives the table its unique appeal: calm wood surfaces, dark natural inclusions, and a clean, modern shape.
With this table, I deliberately left the wood’s natural grain visible. On one side, the tabletop reveals the calm surface of the kauri tree trunk, while on the other, it showcases the more dynamic character of the root section. The result is a designer table that isn’t merely decorative but derives a distinct architectural presence from the material itself.
Particularly striking are the natural amber inclusions, which I have highlighted with clear epoxy resin and polished to a high gloss. This ensures that these areas remain visible and discernible without disrupting the table’s surface. This combination of natural wood, golden amber, and precise craftsmanship is an essential part of this table. These features are virtually impossible to achieve with other types of wood and are what make this table unique and exclusive.

I designed this modern stainless steel table base specifically for this table. Its proportions and appearance are tailored to the tabletop so that the base supports the table’s length and overall effect without detracting from its presence. The base gives the designer table a light, airy look and lends the solid kauri tabletop a clean, modern silhouette.
