Rootwood for artistic and authentic design pieces
For one-of-a-kind table No. 191, I crafted a 3 x 1-meter solid kauri burl slab from a single piece of wood. The wood is 3,700 years old and features a very distinctive grain: broad light-colored wood sections, dark areas of bark, naturally formed root zones, and inlaid amber spots. The extraordinary interplay of surface, depth, and natural tension is what makes this Kauri design table so special.
In this exclusive designer table , the individual wooden sections appear like islands in the sea, creating a unique “river table” look. The light-colored sections of the tabletop lie calmly side by side, with dark areas—the preserved bark —running between them. The transparent epoxy resin forms the river’s course between these zones, allowing the natural grain of the fascinating solid wood to remain clearly visible.
I deliberately left the bark visible on this slab. Added to this are fine root branches and dark natural inclusions, which give the table its unmistakable natural character. This unique combination makes the designer table visually striking and distinctive. The result is a truly unique designer table, which also comes with a certificate of age and its own unique identification number.

The striking tabletop features distinctive amber inclusions, which I have highlighted with transparent, high-gloss polished epoxy resin. The unique, naturally formed structure of the subfossil kauri rootwood gives the table an artistic presence that lies somewhere between a design object and a striking natural form. I designed this dining table from kauri wood so that its large surface remains serene yet still has depth. Several visible layers of amber, bark, and resin give the surface a three-dimensional depth.
