Designer table made of 47,000 year old root cast in epoxy resin.
ContactOn behalf of a customer, I individually manufactured this unusual designer table with a table top made from an ancient root of Kauri wood. So that the outer shape of this unique table top with its primitive tree edges and porous bark is preserved, we decided to cast the beautiful wood entirely in high-quality epoxy resin. The stainless steel base completes the timeless modern appearance of this exclusive designer table.
Thus, a real table unicum was created which now serves the customer as a fancy dining table, all from one source.
From a huge and 47,000 year old root in the dimensions 3.20 x 2.00 x 1.80 meters of a large Kauri tree I cut out this unusual tabletop. The table top was partially so brittle and interspersed with loose wood and bark that the customer and I decided to completely encase it in epoxy resin. Thus, the tabletop became a compact unit and remains as a unique natural work of art.
The modern stainless steel base for this designer table was also made according to the individual wishes of the customer.
At the bottom of the designer tabletop, I filled in the offset with loose wood and bark pieces from other root tabletops to visually close the corner and keep the offset from becoming too large before pouring the tabletop entirely in a high-quality epoxy resin.
Tables with a high content of epoxy resin are also called epoxy resin tables. These have a modern look and offer unique design possibilities. For the design of massive wooden tables and especially of original table tops made of root wood, it offers unimagined possibilities. In recent years, I have specialized more and more in the use of epoxy resin in the manufacture of my Kauri wood tables and it has become an important component in the manufacture of fancy designer tables.
In this tablecloth you can see loose fringes of kauri root wood in the transparent epoxy resin. The primeval wood offers a special charisma and a unique natural characteristic with the root-typical growth in all directions. In addition, the honey-colored and warm coloring of the kauri wood.
In contrast to tables made from tree trunks, from which almost all wooden tables are made, burl wood is much more difficult to process. Prior drying of the table tops to 8% wood moisture is essential to ensure that a designer table remains beautiful for a long time and does not warp, become crooked or crack at a later date, usually after one or two heating periods. With many tests and my many years of professional experience as a master carpenter, the customer can be sure that they have purchased a high-quality designer table and a truly unique table.
