2.900 years old Kauri root in epoxy resin
I made this unusual epoxy resin table according to a customer's wishes, which now serves as a coffee table. I cast individual pieces of root wood from 2,900-year-old Kauri wood in high-quality epoxy resin. We first determined the basic oval shape of the unusual table top together. We then selected the original burl wood for this epoxy resin table, which I then adapted to the basic shape.
The individual solid root woods look in the epoxy resin as if they were floating in the tabletop. There are almost no limits to creativity with epoxy resins.
I use high-quality and non-yellowing resins for the production of my epoxy resin tables. I coat the table tops twice with a 2-component wood varnish. This makes the surface softer to the touch, more homogeneous and more even in gloss level. The resin and lacquer systems are harmless to health and food-safe. If a high-quality epoxy resin is used, the customer can enjoy a special wooden table for a long time.
Epoxy resin tables are often made with crystal clear resin, the resin parts are then glossy and the wood parts matt. When the light reflects off the surfaces of these table tops, this difference is easily visible and the customer should be aware of this and ask themselves whether this is what they want. In the following picture you can see the difference in gloss level between the resin and the wood surface. I will be happy to show you the difference between these gloss levels in my manufactory using sample table tops and finished table tops with various high-quality surface and resin systems.
When designing an epoxy resin table, you should always consider whether the gloss level of the table top should be crystal clear and shiny, as with the coffee table with unique item no. 170, or silk matt. It has its charms when you can see through the crystal-clear polished resin and an artistic three-dimensionality is created, just as a silk matt surface coating may appear timelessly modern.
Epoxy resin can be used in a variety of ways. In combination with the fascinating Kauri wood, it can be used to design precious one-offs and extraordinary unique pieces. As a master carpenter with many years of professional experience, I would be happy to produce a high-quality epoxy resin table for you.
I had the modern table frame made from oiled raw steel for this exclusive coffee table by a master locksmith. It has a supporting central column and recedes discreetly so that the elegant table top can come into its own. The base plate is adapted to the oval shape of the table top.
Design options with epoxy resin such as the Rivertable, root wooden tables, amber and personal inlays as ideal values can be found below.
Here you can see how I made design furniture with epoxy resin, consisting of a designer table, bench and two stools, also in combination with Kauri root wood.
The basic oval shape of the coffee table with a wooden plate as a template. I arranged the individual root woods until it formed a harmonious unit and marked them on the wooden plate.
The board is filled with epoxy resin and covers the root wood to the top edge. Cracks and bark are now impregnated with epoxy resin and solidified.
Now the elaborate surface sanding begins, followed by a single application of resin and renewed sanding and application of another thin layer of resin. The coffee table with its naturally distinctive root woods takes on more and more contours.
Epoxy resin can be used to design beautiful wooden tables with a variety of options. You may know the term rivertable, in rivertable, two solid woods are put together in the middle at a certain distance and poured with epoxy resin. The resin runs through the table top like a river course. As an example of a Kauri wood table as a Rivertable to this you can find here.
Epoxy resin is a special material for my special production of large table tops from thousand-year-old Kauri root wood grown in one piece. Root wood is often brittle, porous and often contains naturally grown openings and bark. I can combine all these special natural features with epoxy resin to form a solid and compact unit and produce beautiful burl wood table tops that look like fine natural works of art.
Another advantage of epoxy resin for the design of my tables is that I "immortalize" natural amber from the Kauri tree in the table top. The Kauri tree has the special property of producing natural tree resin, which after thousands of years has solidified into golden amber and is often present in the root wood. Poured into epoxy resin, the amber is a fascinating eye-catcher and creates extraordinary designer tables.
You can inlay ideal values such as precious jewelry, jewels, valuable gemstones, rings and even coins, such as a lucky penny for a table that I made for a customer, in epoxy resin. There are no limits to your imagination and you can create the table of your dreams.
General information about my Kauri wood tables can be found here and a quality description of my work can be found here.

2.900 years old Kauri root in epoxy resin
Exceptional coffee table with 2,900-year-old pieces of Kauri root wood with natural tree edges "floating" in epoxy resin. To give the unusual table top a natural look, I chose slightly milky epoxy resin. As a side effect, the artistic table is less susceptible to stains and scratches.
