Kauri dining table from primitive tree trunk with high quality finishing
A custom-made dining table with an easy-care solid wood table top made from a Kauri tree trunk from the swamps of New Zealand (Swamp Kauri table) with natural tree edges and a table frame made from steel stringers. It is easy to see that the artistic table top has been cut out of a large Kauri tree trunk.
Also this large solid table top which is grown in one piece, has a unique character with its primitive form, which radiates power and energy. The primitive grain gives the artistic tree trunk dining table a special touch.
The beautiful grain of the Kauri wood with its honey-golden hue is shown to its best advantage in this table. The tree trunk table top has many small cracks and the wood grain runs in different directions. This gives the dining table a unique look that will attract attention. I filled the naturally grown openings and the cracks in the table top that appeared after drying with high-quality epoxy resin. In combination with my special, high-quality surface finish, the solid wood table can be used safely as a dining table for everyday use.
With large solid table tops made from tree trunks or root wood, it is inevitable that the drying process will cause tension in the solid wood, resulting in cracks. This is a natural process and would take place after one or two heating periods at the customer's premises if the table top is not artificially and professionally dried beforehand. I carry out this drying process gently in my drying chamber until the wood has reached a moisture content of approx. 7% before I start working on the table tops. Only then do I level the wood and in the subsequent process I fill the cracks with epoxy resin so that the dining tables are even and no liquids or dust can penetrate.
This process makes it most likely that deformation will not occur at the customer's premises. In combination with my special surface finishing, which allows the wooden tables I make to withstand all liquids such as water or alcoholic drinks without damage, even overnight, I can offer you durable and very high-quality dining tables and easy-care solid wood tables. This is proven by the many tests I have carried out on pieces of kauri wood in my manufactory.
With the epoxy resin fillings, the natural growth in the width of the table top was adjusted to also grant the practicality of the tree trunk table as an everyday object of use as a dining table. In this way, "natural irregularities", which can be maintained in order not to change the natural character, can be compensated.
