Genuine gold-colored amber embedded in epoxy resin in a Kauri dining table
ContactThis tabletop, crafted from old kauri burl wood, is a one-of-a-kind work of natural art. In addition to its fascinating natural characteristics, what makes this luxury dining table so special is the abundance of natural tree resin from the kauri tree that grew 3,700 years ago—resin that has transformed over the millennia into beautiful amber, lending the table a luxurious aura. Encased in transparent epoxy resin, it remains permanently visible and adds to the table’s value.
As is often seen during a walk in the woods, tree sap oozes from damaged areas as a form of self-defense. In the case of the kauri tree, it dripped into the soil and into the tree’s roots. Over the course of millennia, it hardened into golden-colored amber. This natural phenomenon is now visible in the kauri rootwood of my tabletops and is evident in the sections of bark. I carefully highlight it so that it remains permanently visible within the epoxy resin and now serves as an extravagant eye-catcher. The amber can be seen in numerous places throughout the tabletop.
The resin is also known in our native woods such as pine or larch. If you are a DIY enthusiast working with these woods, you may also see the honey-colored sticky resin galls.

Kauri burl wood offers properties that go far beyond the ordinary and are virtually impossible to achieve with other materials.
The Kauri table top as a whole shows the beautiful burl wood of the luxury dining table. The grain grows in all directions and thus contributes to the special natural characteristics in combination with the bark parts cast in epoxy resin.
Here too, the epoxy resin helps to strengthen the Kauri bark and makes the dining table inimitable. The ingrown gold-colored amber can be seen very nicely.
The tabletop as an unfinished blank during the working process. After I’ve dried the kauri wood to a moisture content of about 7–8%, I begin working on it. The dining table top now has its final shape, which minimizes the likelihood that the large, solid slab will warp later on at the customer’s home. This is an important prerequisite for ensuring that the customer can enjoy this exceptional and luxurious one-of-a-kind piece for many years to come.
I close the large naturally grown openings by hand with pieces of bark according to the customer's wishes from the same root trunk.
