In order to craft unusual and unique wooden tables, dining tables, and conference tables for my customers, I sourced an oversized root from a 47,000-year-old kauri tree in New Zealand, measuring 3.40 x 2.00 x 1.80 m. Once it arrived in Germany, I cut it into individual tabletops right in front of my workshop; each one retains its own special, natural character.
Right in the area where the giant trees had been dug up, I was able to pick out this impressive root.
Compared to me, this photo of the oversized root shows just how enormous the kauri tree must have been during its lifetime 47,000 years ago. As you can see, this root was originally even larger and was cut down to size so it would fit into the container that brought it to Germany. I had the age of the root determined at the Leibniz Laboratory for Age Determination and Isotope Research in Kiel.
